Layout of Moon Bear House
The whole house is on one floor, in a ranch-style layout, so there are no indoor stairs. The lot is about 2,400 m². A 40 m² cement patio sits at the back.
The main room is a 43 m² living room and kitchen with 5-meter ceilings. The bedrooms, a deep bath, a shower, and two separate toilets share that same level.
Living room and kitchen
The living room has a vaulted ceiling, exposed wood beams, and a ceiling fan that runs in both directions. Air conditioning, a heater, and floor heating all serve this room. Windows 2.2 meters wide face the backyard, the mature cedar trees, and the rock wall.
The kitchen is set up for a full stay. It has an induction stove, oven, grill, dishwasher, refrigerator-freezer, microwave, toaster, rice cooker, and coffee machine, plus dishes, silverware, and cooking utensils.
Three bedrooms, sleeping six
Extra mattresses or futons are available on request for an additional fee. Every bedroom has air conditioning and heating.
- Bedroom 1, the master. Privacy blinds, a screen door, and two single beds that can be combined into one larger bed. A thick cover is stored in the closet.
- Bedrooms 2 and 3. Each has two single beds, night lights, and power adapters.
Bath, two toilets, and laundry
The bath is a full-depth tub heated by gas, so the hot water does not run out. Temperature is set on a digital panel. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are stocked. A shower sits with the bath, and there are two separate toilets.
Laundry is an all-in-one washer and dryer. Start it before you leave for the mountain and the clothes are ready when you get back. A ceiling rod is there for hanging wet clothes, and a towel warmer is mounted on the wall.
Private backyard
The backyard is private and surrounded by mature cedar trees. In winter the views stay open, and there is room for a snowball fight. The 40 m² cement patio is the outdoor living space.
Green-season grills and garden set
The grills, table, chairs, loungers, and cornhole are available during the green season.
- Weber 3-burner gas grill, connected to the house gas, on the side of the house. A steel smoking box takes wood chips for extra flavor.
- Weber charcoal grill, lit with a chimney starter. Use the smoker box when you want smoke.
- Outdoor table and 6 chairs, two lounge chairs with a side table, cornhole, and outdoor lighting.
Salmon on cedar planks is a house favorite on the gas grill. Hamburgers and slow-cooked brisket work well too. Smoking chips and cedar planks can be ordered for next-day delivery while you are in Hakuba.
Outdoor jacuzzi
A portable air-jet jacuzzi fits 4 to 6 people. Control it from the app or from the panel. The maximum temperature is 40°C, and it does reach that temperature. Filled with cold water, it warms at about 2°C per hour.
The outdoor tap just behind the jacuzzi supplies hot water, so you can fill it hot instead of waiting, then hold the temperature from the panel. The maximum temperature is set from the panel by the kitchen. The app can also run a warming schedule. The tap has a lever that purges the line so it does not freeze.
Cold-weather caution. If you do not purge the outdoor tap, it can freeze quickly and damage the water pipes. Purge it after use whenever the temperature is low.
